The KP-01-E2 is based on the P226 E2 an enhanced version of the 9mm P226.
The P226 was one of the main competitor's to the Berretta M9 in the competition to become the next side arm for the US-Army, although theoretically a better pistol than the M9, It proved to be a little more expensive and so only the US Navy SEALS initially took it on. The P226 has gone on to be great success in the civilian and the military and law enforcement community. The P226 is in use by the British Army and the SAS as the L105A1,
In the world of film and screen, the P226 was the sidearm for Mulder in the X-Files for almost the entire series. Today McGarret in the new Hawaii-5-0 series uses one as his primary sidearm.
The E2 version, E Squared or Enhanced Ergonomics, features a number of enhancements over the standard P226.
